About Me

"Becoming a mother is a biological process; but it is also a social transformation, and one of the most dramatic and far-reaching that a woman may ever experience in her life."

- Sheila Kitzinger Ourselves as Mothers

My journey to support mothers, babies and families began long before I became a mother.

When families have new babies there is a time of transition for the household. A postpartum doula holds the space for the transition, supports mother, baby and family during this time and provides non-judgemental support, calming care, and the latest education to the family after a baby is born.

I am so grateful to be able to work in the field of my passion: postpartum care. I discovered that the days, weeks and months after a child is born are the very precious and sacred. Being supported during that time is crucial in successful bonding, feeding and a decrease in negative postpartum symptoms. I am dedicated in supporting new mothers, mothers and families, and those who are old pros but would love an extra set of hands.

I am also passionate about educating single moms and low-income families about the benefits of breastfeeding, bonding and normal newborn behavior.

I completed the Dona International Postpartum Doula 27 hour training.

I am a Lactation Consultant Assistant (LCA).

I facilitate Positively Postpartum Meet-ups throughout the greater Sacramento area.

I teach free classes at Babies R Us in Folsom, Roseville and Elk Grove.

Member of Capital City Doula Collective since 2013.

{Also, I have an BA in Humanities and an MA in Liberal Arts.}

My personal experience brings me to this career including one posterior baby that had to be "unstuck" during a c-section after laboring for 12 hours and pushing on and off for 7 hours.  My second baby was a successful, all-natural VBAC in a hospital.  I breastfed both of my babies beyond their first year including one with a tongue-tie and both had weight-gaining issues.  My mother was my birth and postpartum doula for both.

I love supporting mothers with postpartum doula work for families throughout California and supported many family and friends through the challenging and beautiful 4th trimester.

I look forward to connecting with you and yours.

Best, Emilie
